The song revolves around the statement "someone told me life would never be the same". The lyrics and melody came to me during a day dream where in my mental theater a friend witnesses the chance meeting of a new relationship and it was obvious enough a connection to point out afterwards "that my life would never be the same". Sometimes we realize these moments when they are happening and sometimes we only realize them years after the fact and you pin point who or what exactly was the big variable. Nonetheless, these moments are special and special moments inspire songs.
We tried a bossa nova feel and I got hooked right away. I chose Ben Hedquist on upright base, Ryan Anthony on drums, and Reid Riddiough on guitar. This is our second tune together.
I've heard nothing but great things about Clarke Rigsbey and I have to attest ... they're all true. We only had an hour (busy season for everyone) so the boys laid down the track first and then I stayed a bit longer to get the vocals right. A week later we decided to add tenor sax for our fills and solo, and Jerry Donato nailed it. Mixed by Clarke at Tempest Recording and Mastered by Nathan at Vault Mastering. The process is getting tighter!
How great is this cover art though!?! I found Abbey Withey on Instagram @janegoat and was able to convince her to design the cover art. I love the feminine pink and fun typography that I'd like to say is a little jazzy? No?!
This cover art is NOT going to have my name on it because whenever I put my name on the cover art Itunes and Spotify think I'm the famous Motown artist Kim Weston and I don't think she likes it when my tunes become her "newest releases" and I certainly don't like mine getting lost under all of her songs. Until I trust Itunes to get it right my cover art will remain nameless. Also, I want management.
Thankful for this new release "Someone Told Me" and cheers to all of those moments when life gives you those chance meetings and all of the "shifts" to bring you to the places you dream.
